Sapwood is creamy white. Heartwood ranges from light brown to dark chocolate brown, sometimes with a purplish cast and darker streaks. Walnut can be supplied steamed to darken the sapwood or left unsteamed. Grain is generally straight, but can also show attractive wavy or curly figure. Also known as Black Walnut and American Walnut.
