Sapwood is creamy white with a slight reddish brown tinge. Heartwood varies from light to dark reddish brown. The wood has a close, fine texture and is generally straight grained, but can also appear as curly, fiddleback or birds-eye figure. Also known as Sugar Maple, Rock Maple and Black Maple.
