Heartwood is pale brown. Sapwood is creamy and not clearly distinguished. Kiln heat can shift the heartwood towards reddish brown. Texture is fine and even. Grain is usually straight. The ends of the large rays give a characteristic fleck on the tangential surface. Also known as Beech.
