Heartwood is pale straw, maturing to yellow with age. Sapwood is very narrow and hard to distinguish. Texture is very fine and even. Grain is straight. Growth rings are closely spaced. The timber has a distinct aromatic odour due to methyl eugenol in the natural oil. Birds-eye figure is sometimes available.
