Heartwood colour ranges from pink to dark red and varies with age and location. Grain is interlocked and frequently wavy, often producing a fiddleback figure when quarter cut. Texture is close and even. The wood is resinous with frequent gum pockets. Surfaces are often distinctly mottled. Also known as Murray Red Gum.
