Description Heartwood is pink when freshly cut, then deepens to red brown or purple brown. Sapwood is grey pink or cream. Grain is interlocked, producing a narrow, even stripe on the radial surface. Texture is fine and even. The wood has a slight cedar like odour when freshly cut. Also known as Sapeli, Sapelli and Sapelle.
